Sarah and Her Sisters
American Missionary Pioneers in Arab Female Education, 1834-1937
Robert D. Stoddard, Jr
إشترِ الآن“Extracted from letters, memoirs and school records, Sarah and Her Sisters is the extraordinary history of how Sarah Smith and successive missionary “sisters” passed the torch of Arab female education forward from her Beirut Female School in 1834 to what became the co-ed Lebanese American University in 1994. It is hard to grasp the courage of these women, some married, some not, who bade farewell to their homes and families not knowing if they would ever return.” John Waterbury, President Emeritus, the American University of Beirut Learn more >

The Bible came from Arabia
Kamal Salibi
إشترِ الآنKamal Salibi, professor of history at the American University of Beirut, reveals startling linguistic evidence which controversially suggests that Judaism originated not in Palestine but in west Arabia. Whilst looking at the gazetteer of Saudi place names, he noticed a remarkable concentration of Biblical place names in an area of 600km long by 200km wide (the region of 'Asir). Ancient Hebrew, like Arabic, was written without vowels, Salibi believes that scholars of the sixth century might have added the vowels wrongly when standardizing texts, and so he went back to the original unvowelled Old Testament to prove his theory - and it did. The geography of Palestine has never corresponded in any way to the apparently specific stories in the Bible. Salibi's research authenticates the events as history for the first time - but within an Arabian setting. This book has caused a predictable storm amongst academics and politicians. The issue is of such importance that everyone should read the evidence first-hand. Learn more >

Maximum Max
Prince of Peaks
Inspired by the adventures of Maxime Chaya
إشترِ الآن“And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin the climb.” Gibran Khalil Gibran No one knows better than Max this land which has been lent to us for a lifetime. He who has explored its every nook and cranny: from the North Pole to the South Pole, from Earth’s highest summit (Mount Everest at 8,850 m) to its vastest expanses of water (rowing across the Indian Ocean, in 57 days) and harshest deserts (cycling across the Empty Quarter without assistance, in 21 days). This second volume of the adventures of Maximum Max tells how this extreme sportsman, just back from Kilimanjaro, next attempts three more peaks of the Seven Summits challenge: Russia’s Mount Elbrus, the tallest in Europe; Argentina’s Aconcagua, the highest in South America; and, finally, Alaska’s Denali, the loftiest mountain of North America. Determined to always move onwards and upwards, our hero will encounter hardships that compel him to draw on all his physical and mental resources to surpass himself. Learn more >
